Meet the Pastor

Roger RussellPastor Roger L. Russell is an anointed and passionate man of God seeking to spread the Gospel of Christ thru his diligent and unwavering faith and support of the ministry. He has a strong vision and sense of community activism. Called to the ministry June 1998. He served as assistant pastor of Hills Tabernacle under the tutelage of Pastor Robert L. Crocker, serving from June 1998-January 2002. In February of 2002, Elder Russell was called to the pastorate of  Stones River Church, affectionately called “The River” Murfreesboro, TN where he presently serves as Senior Pastor.

In his over 13 year tenure he has established many new ministries: Single, Saved and Successful, Jesus & Me, Collegiate Connection, Covenant Connection, Saved with Abounding Grace (S.W.A.G.). He also established a church trustee board and literacy program devoted to meeting the needs of the parishioners and keeping in line with the church ministry philosophy of “A Big Vision Church with a Family Feel”. The churches desire is not to do church as normal but church as it should be, with your family in mind.

In 2008, he led the church in moving from a 2,000 square foot facility on County Farm Road to a brand new 17,000 square foot facility on Joe B. Jackson Pkwy offering additional ministry options and meeting space. He has seen an increase in membership from 15 members at the beginning of his pastorate to presently over 260 members and growing.

Pastor Russell is a proud alumnus of American Baptist College having received his Bachelor of Arts, May 2011. While at American Baptist College he served as Pastoral Excellence Appointee, President of Alpha Iota Nu Fraternity 2010-2011, and assisted the student council.

Pastor Russell has served as current President and past Vice President of Sunday School Convention for 7 years, Past Youth President of Tri State Convention-TN, AL & MS for 7 years, Board of Evangelism at Tri State Convention-TN, AL, & MS for 7 years, volunteer for Patterson Coalition, Read to Succeed, Habitat for Humanity and a member of Primitive Baptist Elders of Rutherford County. Pastor Russell serves as the visionary and founder behind Camp Riverside, Flowing Water Learning Center and Flowing Water Community Development Corporation. Pastor Russell is also an instruction of Biblical Studies at Big Harpeth Institute.

Pastor Russell’s ministry and mission are to bring about a spiritual, social, economic and physical change to the community who is willing to dare to dream again. Pastor Russell is presently working on a devotional series and ministry book.
